DogEvent organizes a 4 day conference on Dog Behavior Studies and Dog Training Methods. This gives you the opportunity to learn more in only one journey and allows us to invite several specialists of International reputation while allowing them long enough presentation time in order to be able to share as much knowledge as possible. The two organizers who support this project, Perrine Hubert (The Dog's Compagnie) and Benjamin Bonhomme (DogConseil and ZenDog), welcome in 2016 six brilliant speakers, Dr. CLIVE WYNNE, KEN McCORT, Dr. JEAN DODDS, Dr. LORE HAUG, Dr. ANTOINE BOUVRESSE.
A shelter’s purpose is to be a place of transit where certain animals will have to wait for a new owner, a new life, a new environment. During the weeks or months spent at the shelter, each individual will experience drastic changes to his/her physical and social environment. Which individual will take on those changes as an opportunity to learn new things? Which one will experience this as a trauma and why? Which one will get ill? Being able to answer these questions and to understand the reasons behind it is essential to anticipating each dog’s reactions by observing them. The objective is to provide each dog with the conditions which will be most suitable and thus creating an environment which will allow him/her to develop positively until he/she is adopted.Dr. Antoine Bouvresse & AVA Team
One of the leading preventable causes of death for a dog is euthanasia at an animal shelter. In this talk, I will describe the research on how we can improve adoption rates through behavioral training. First, I will describe what morphology and behavior of the dogs adopters are looking for when selecting a dog from the shelter. Then, I shall consider how to encourage dogs in shelters to act in ways that improve their chances of adoption, how to help dogs with stereotypies and other behavioral problems, and what it is about people that dogs find reinforcing.Dr. Clive Wynne
In many years of working with rescue/adoption groups in the United States, one of the biggest problems encountered is to see people making huge mistakes with newly adopted dogs. Giving good advice to adopters is the key to successful adoption.Ken McCort
The science of learning - conditioning - was discovered in Russia with dogs over 130 years ago, but for the longest time dogs were ignored by scientists interested in conditioning. This might not matter except that in our interaction with dogs, whether as trainers, therapists or just people who enjoy the company of dogs, a better understanding of how dogs learn would greatly improve the quality of life that we share with our dogs. I will describe numerous studies by my students looking at applying learning theory in new ways to the welfare of dogs living in shelters, dogs with behavioral problems, and ordinary pets just trying to live comfortably with people.Dr. Clive Wynne

Dr. Clive Wynne will be discussing all aspects of the research being carried at the Canine Science Collaboratory, including research in social reinforcement, odor discrimination in learning and the effects of odor on behavior, as well as gesture studies Canine cognition, domestic dogs and human gestures, domestic dogs, human speech and more.Dr. Clive Wynne

The focus of this session is the evolution of dogs with emphasis on selective breeding. This will help us all better understand why dogs do what they do, and why that can make some dog owners crazy. The presentation will also look at some strategies for resolving problems with these behaviors when they are undesirable.Ken McCort
When not required to focus and inhibit its responses, dogs can become problematic for people, including trainers. This presentation will center around some on the neurobiology and neural anatomy involved in learning and controlling emotions. This is important information for people involved with dogs that are in or that have come from shelter or rescue environments.Ken McCort
When animals come into new environments, they have levels of needs that must be met in order for the animal to become comfortable and secure there. Abraham Maslow looked at these “needs” some years ago and we can apply his findings to our dogs. This talk will focus on how dogs adapt to new environment and what it looks like as they do. We will also give advice on how to enhance this process.Ken McCort
When dogs are demonstrating undesired behavior, we sometimes cannot just ignore the situation. Stopping the dog from practicing the unwanted behaviors can be important to creating harmony with the dog and its people. This talk will discuss strategies and equipment that can create a management situation where the dog can more easily learn desired behavior while not practicing those that are undesired.Ken McCort
Practicing Behavior Consultants and trainers working behavior cases will have the opportunity to learn from Dr. Lore Haug with lecture, video and interactive exercises. Those with ample experience as well as those just finding themselves working in behavior will benefit from the solid behavior modification plans, tactics, effective and efficient modes of resolving or working towards resolution of these often very tough cases (including agression and anxiety). This lecture will include how to outline a management and methodical behavior modification plan for the most critical aspects of the problem list, including short and long term goals. The lecture will also give perspectives on common behavior modification exercises including counterconditioning, leash control, relaxation and impulse control and how to fine tune these for more effective outcomes. We will intelligently and objectively discuss aspects of reinforcing «emotions». Case examples will be used to tie in neurophysiologic and neuropharmacologic aspects of working with dogs with behavior problems.Dr. Lore Haug
Wholesome nutrition is key to maintaining healthy immune function and resistance to disease. Discussion will focus on the basic ingredients and trace vitamins, minerals, and immune-balancing nutrients that promote healthy endocrine and immune function as they apply to health and disease. The presentation covers Pet nutrition and balanced diets, Food intolerance, Food allergies, Clinical signs and treatment, Liver cleansing diets, Nutrigenomics. The exciting new field of Nutrigenomics is an emerging science that studies the molecular relationships between nutrition and the response of genes.Dr. Jean Dodds
